Romantik Waldhotel Mangold

At the foot of the castle of Jan Wellem, construction starts in 1705, is the Milchborntal which charmed by Goethe in his art journey 1774th. Here, the family Mangold acquired at the end of the 19th Century, larger estates with ancient timber-framed buildings which were partially constructed during the time as french caftsmen were building the palace - so the contemporary history says.

In this valley Wilhelm Mangold opened in 1925, a restaurant called Hänsel and Gretelhaus. Cologne families took the commuter train line B (now the tram line 1) to Bensberg, took a hike in the state forest Hardt and returned for completion in Hansel and Gretelhaus.

End of the 1960s the oldest son Hans, who had earned his spurs in top hotels, took over the family business and built the first hotel rooms. The former Hänsel und Gretel Restaurant became the Waldhotel Mangold.

In the 1970s and 1980s, the hotel complex was often enlarged and modernized, while preserving the traditional character. In the years 1976 to 1981, the Waldhotel Mangold was team's hotel of the 1 FC Cologne. The coach at this time Hennes Weisweiler used the calmness of the hotel for his team to prepare them for the home games, which helped the FC to win its last title so far in 1978th.

In the 1990s both sons got into the family business, to lead them together until today. The restaurant "Waldstuben" was opened. With the construction of the castle Room the banquet department was enlarged, so that parties with 100 or more people can be carried out.

In 2000, with the inclusion in the cooperation "Romantik Hotels & Restaurants International" the Waldhotel Mangold became the Romantik Waldhotel Mangold.
